    6.5 MM/.264 CALIBER 123 GR. HPBT MATCHKING

    123 Gr.

    , , ,
The 6.5mm 123 grain Hollow Point Boat Tail (1727) was designed to fill the gap for a mid-weight, high B.C. bullet for the ever-increasing 6.5mm long-range crowd. This bullet is a popular choice for long-range target and Silhouette customers. Keeping the long-range design in mind, we built this bullet with a longer ogive, smaller meplat and improved boat tail to preserve downrange efficiency, enhance accuracy, and reduce wind-drift. While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting, their heavier jackets will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet, Blitz or Varminter counterparts.

Sierra has enhanced a segment of the MatchKing line by adding the acetal resin tip, thus crowning the Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet line. The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag, producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. Another benefit is reliable feeding in magazine fed firearms. While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting, their design will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet, Blitz or Varminter counterparts. The #7430 was introduced in November 2015. This bullet requires a barrel twist rate of 1x8” or faster.

The 6.5mm/.264 inch bore has recently enjoyed a resurgence of interest. Several rifle manufacturers currently produce 6.5x55mm sporters, exposing a new generation of shooters to this famous old Scandinavian service and hunting cartridge. Competitive HighPower and Silhouette shooters have also shown great interest in the 6.5mm bore size. While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Customers have been asking us for years to make a 6.5 mm and 7mm version of our very popular 30 caliber 165 grain HPBT GameKing and we are happy to say we have fulfilled that request. Just like their 30 caliber cousin, these bullets will be ideal for midsized game with standard and magnum calibers. The thicker jacket promotes deep penetration, while the skives at the meplat provide reliable expansion.

This bullet is the best long-range hunting bullet in 6.5 mm caliber. Exceptional accuracy, excellent ballistic shape, and adequate weight for medium and heavy game make this a truly exceptional bullet. This bullet is at its best in country like the wide open western prairie where shots are long and conditions difficult. It has a flat trajectory, great ability to resist crosswinds and vertical winds, and high energy delivery downrange. The bullet performs very well from any 6.5 mm cartridge with medium to large powder capacity, but it is at its absolute best from magnum rifles with maximum hunting loads.

The 142 grain #1742 bullet has a longer ogive radius than the 140 grain #1740 bullet and thus a higher ballistic coefficient with less sensitivity to crosswinds. Shooters around the world will appreciate the accuracy and extreme long range performance of the 6.5mm 150 grain HPBT (#1755). A sleek 27 caliber elongated ogive and a final meplat reducing operation (pointing) provide an increased ballistic coefficient for optimal wind resistance and velocity retention. To ensure precise bullet to bore alignment, a unique bearing surface to ogive junction uses the same 1.5 degree angle commonly found in many match rifle chamber throats. This bullet requires a barrel twist rate of 1x7.5” or faster. This bullet was introduced in October 2017.

    .45 CALIBER 300 GR. HP/FN

Sierra offers a single flatnose bullet in this 45 caliber specifically for the 45-70 bore size. It may be used in rifles or handguns with a .458 inch bore, but it must not be used in handguns with .451 or .454 inch bore size.   Sierra introduced this bullet in 1973 -  the 100th year of the 45-70 cartridge. Now, decades later, this old cartridge is still growing in popularity and justifiably so. Adequate for any game in North America and offered in several modern firearms, this old cartridge is just plain fun. The bullet is unique in that it expands well at modest 1873 Springfield velocities or at the more powerful full charge velocities that can be loaded in stronger action types, such as the Ruger No. 1 and No. 3 and Marlin lever actions. Accuracy is excellent, and it feeds reliably through all types of magazines and actions. It can be used in the 458 Winchester Magnum cartridge, but muzzle velocities should not exceed 2500 fps. For handguns, this bullet was designed to expand reliably even at 1300 fps.  It is a perfect match for the T/C Contenders and similar handguns chambered for the 45-70 cartridge. Dependable expansion and excellent accuracy make this Pro-Hunter bullet a good choice for most hunting situations.
