    Sierra has enhanced a segment of the MatchKing line by adding the acetal resin tip, thus crowning the Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet line. The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag, producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. Another benefit is reliable feeding in magazine fed firearms. The 77 grain Tipped MatchKing (TMK) allows seating to an OAL that permits cartridges to be loaded into M16/AR15 magazines. While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting, their design will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet, Blitz or Varminter counterparts. The #7177 was introduced in January 2015. This bullet requires a barrel twist rate of 1x8” or faster.

With the introduction of the 80 grain #9390, the M16 family of rifles really became a force to be reckoned with in National Match competition. Because of its extreme length, the 80 grain MatchKing® requires a twist rate not slower than 1x8 inches. However, it must be seated to an OAL that requires single loading in the M16/AR-15 series. While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications.     The 22 caliber 90 grain Hollow Point Boat Tail was created in response to the increasing demands of Long Range shooters. With the success of the AR-15/M16 rifles in Long Range competition, the need was felt to maximize the ballistic potential of these rifles. The 90 grain MatchKing® is the final product of a series of tests, covering both accuracy and exterior ballistics, to arrive at the best possible bullet for the Long Range competitor. Designed specifically for the .223 Remington / 5.56x45mm cartridge, the 90 MatchKing® is at equally at home in both Match and Service Rifles. Due to the inherent requirements for a bullet of this type, the 90 grain MatchKing® is intended for single loading, and is not intended to be fed from a magazine. While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting, their design will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet, Blitz or Varminter counterparts. Sierra recommends a 6.5” twist barrel for the #9290 22 cal 90 gr HPBT bullet when pushed at muzzle velocities lower than 2650 fps. In cartridges like the Valkyrie with muzzle velocities above 2650 fps, a 1x7” twist barrel will stabilize the bullet correctly.

A sleek 27 caliber elongated ogive and a final meplat reducing operation (pointing) provide an increased ballistic coefficient for optimal wind resistance and velocity retention. To ensure precise bullet to bore alignment, a unique bearing surface to ogive junction uses the same 1.5 degree angle commonly found in many match rifle chamber throats.     Suitable for all 6.5 cartridges and extremely effective on all sizes of varmints, the #1710 is a great choice for the 264 Winchester Magnum. Quarter minute of angle accuracy is quite common, even from the 264 magnum cartridges. It is equally accurate in cartridges with smaller case capacities. For handguns, both bullets are excellent choices for TCU size cartridges and target or varmint applications. The 100 grain #1710 can be used for up to medium-sized game. Shooters will enjoy these bullets' excellent accuracy, but will find them too light for full-size silhouettes. The #1710 was introduced in 1960.

    This very interesting new bullet was originally developed for the Sierra Prairie Enemy 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition. Tremendous explosive performance on even the smallest varmints has been its history. So many requests for the bullet as a reloading component for use in the wide array of 6.5mm cartridges has prompted Sierra to offer this bullet. Explosive expansion is a given. True match-accuracy has been easily achieved in all applications. Great varmint bullet and excellent short-range match bullet as well. These would be most excellent in the 6.5 Grendel and most other of the 6.5mm cartridges for prairie dogs, groundhogs, rock chucks, up through bobcat and coyote.

    The Spitzer shape of this 120 grain #1720 bullet assures excellent downrange performance and precise accuracy. This bullet will perform well at longer ranges on medium game from the 264 Winchester Magnum and the 6.5x284 cartridges, but it will be too fragile for close-range shots. It is an excellent all-around bullet for smaller capacity 6.5mm cartridges. While this bullet is generally considered too "hard" for handgun hunting situations, the 120 grain #1720 bullet would be a good choice for medium game at short ranges. It is best used in 6.5mm cartridge cases with powder capacity equal to the 223 Remington or larger and loaded to maximum velocities. This 120 grain bullet gives the handgunner target accuracy suitable for all target applications, including full-size handgun silhouettes.
